Felted wool has a long and fascinating history as the oldest fiber used by the human race. My experience with felting wool began by accidently throwing my favorite backpacking sweater into the washer and drier. The shrunken, dense sweater that emerged provided the raw material for later experimentation. Over the Christmas holiday in 2004 I fashioned that sweater into a hat, giving birth to a business and numerous trips to thrift stores to harvest discarded wool sweaters. Selected for their color, pattern or unique details- these sweaters are machine felted and given new life as hats, scarves and accessories here at Cimarrona. Named for a favorite backpacking destination outside of Pagosa Springs, CO; our studio is located in Denton, Texas.  Since 2004, our line of hats has grown to include over a dozen hat styles, and numerous accessories- making use of practically every bit and scrap of wool that we generate.
